What Students and Parents are Saying
A. Smith
Daughter of Ascend's Founder and High School Senior at Quality Schools International (2025)
My dad was a teacher, so learning was always a priority at home. He even held me back in the 4th grade because I wasn’t good at math. But now I can understand why.
I’m now finishing my senior year in high school, a member of the
National Honor Society, and was recently accepted into my top college choice, also earning their Provost’s Scholarship. Thanks, dad for always believing I can learn anything.

I had the pleasure of working with Matt as a tutor for my middle school-aged children, and I couldn’t be more impressed.
Not only did he excel in teaching math and writing, but he also
instilled a growth mindset in them and helped develop strong
organizational skills. Matt’s encouragement and challenges were
instrumental in their progress, and I am truly grateful for his
dedication and expertise. I highly recommend Matt for anyone looking to
support their child’s academic journey.

Matt has been an excellent academic coach for our child.
Matt focuses not only on academic skills but also on developing a strong growth mindset, a positive attitude, and confidence.
He also
provided helpful tips to us as parents to support our child’s academic
growth.
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly does a student success coach do?
A student success coach helps students develop the skills, habits, and mindset they need to thrive in school — and beyond. I work closely with both students and parents to build effective routines, boost motivation, improve time management, and increase confidence in learning.
Is this the same as tutoring?
No. While tutors focus on helping students with specific subjects, coaching goes deeper. A student success coach helps students build strategies that work across all areas — like staying organized, managing stress, setting goals, and following through. Coaching helps create lasting academic and personal growth.
My child is bright but unmotivated. Can coaching help?
Yes. Many students under perform not because of ability, but because of mindset, lack of structure, or low confidence. Coaching addresses these issues by identifying what’s holding your child back and working with them (and you) to create realistic, motivating plans for progress.
How long does it take to see results?
It depends on the student and the goals. Some families see noticeable changes in just a few sessions, especially in areas like organization and mindset. Consistency is key — most students benefit from a 3- to 6-month coaching plan to build and maintain lasting habits.
Do you work directly with parents, students, or both?
Both. I believe success happens when students are supported at home and at school. I provide coaching sessions for students and also offer regular check-ins with parents to ensure we’re aligned, empowered, and working together for the student’s success.
